The History of Rohan

Rohan was originally a province of Gondor called Calenardhon. It was given to the Rohirrim and Eorl by Cirion, the Steward of Gondor, for their aid in the battle of Celebrant. The larger parts of Rohan are covered mostly by vast fields of plains, and in the south there lies the mountains of Ered Nimrais. The northern borders of Rohan go all the way up as far as into Fangorn Forest.

Rohan's history however, is not a very happy one. Most of it is covered with death, war, and constant conflict. The Dunlendings to the west of Rohan, the orcs of the White Mountains, and later on, the powerful armies of Saruman from Isengard. However, Rohan lived on, and the Kings of Rohan lived all the way up to the time of the War of the Ring.

During this time, much was in ruin for Rohan. King Theoden was under the strong influence of Saruman. It took the will of Gandalf to break King Theoden free, and restore Rohan's honor once more. When the time came, Rohan kept the Oath of Eorl and rode to the aid of Gondor at the Battle of the Pelennor Fields, sometime after having their own victory at Helms Deep, defeating the huge armies of Saruman.
